Last Sunday in 2008

Well this is the last Sunday in 2008.  I survived Christmas although it was sad and lonely without my family.  It was strange not to go to church on Christmas eve.  On Christmas day I went to church and sang Christmas carols to a different tone than I'm use to.  I imagine New Years Day will be totally different as well.  I have had a lot of time to pray and read my Bible.  It is very quiet and peaceful here.  We actually had electricity all of Christmas week until Saturday the 27th. (9am till 10 pm daily) It came back on this afternoon.  It was wonderful to have something cold to drink.  Most of the time the electricity is on Mon- Fri noon till 8 or 9 pm unless they run out of fuel or the generator breaks down.  Then we won't have any for days.  Supposedly there won't be electricity for 2 weeks in January while they do maintenance on the generator.  It will be a joy trying to keep food. ... Merry Christmas Everyone

I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas.  It will be hard for me not being with my family.  I miss everyone very much.  The woman's center has closed until the 5th of Jan 09.  So I will have a lot of time to myself to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas and to talk with God about why he has me away from my family for the holidays.  I may go visit a friend in Kampala after Christmas for a few days, but not sure about that yet because I will have to ride the gaga bus.  Not sure I want to do that.  It is so different not having the hustle and bustle that I usually have during the Christmas season.  No Christmas carols or holiday shopping crowds.  Just a very peaceful quiet time in the village of Goli.  God bless you and keep you.  Thanks for your note Jane.  Good to hear from you.  Tell mom hello.  I love you all.

Finally we have electricity!!  God is good.  Life here is hard.  Most of the time there isn't electric and I would love to have indoor plumbing:  flushing toilet and a hot shower or bath tub.  I have made some friends and most are very welcoming to me.  I go to get my work permit in Kampala tomorrow.  I will be there until Thursday.  I will then move into my house.  It has been very boring staying in the guest house as I am the only one here.  Since there hasn't been electricity I have been going to bed at 8:00 pm.  I have had a lot of time to pray and read my Bible.  I still haven't figured out why God has sent me here.  He truly has a sense of humor.  I miss my home, family, friends and church family. I am hoping to learn more of the language so that I will be able to communicate with those who don't speak English.  If money allows I will take lessons.  God bless you and keep you until I can post again. ...
